- Why is Instagram asking me for a video selfie or ID?
- Instagram now runs Face-based age checks when you edit your birthday, sign in from certain regions (UK Online Safety Act, EU DSA markets, many U.S. states), or trigger bot/spam signals. Follow the in-app flow to record a short selfie video; if the region demands it, upload a government ID so Meta can verify you're 18+.
- How long do verification reviews take?
- Automated selfie checks clear in minutes. Manual ID reviews can take up to 48 hours. You'll find status updates under Settings - Accounts Center - Personal details - Date of birth.
- I'm stuck in a verification loop-what now?
- Update the app, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, and retake the selfie in bright, even light. If it persists, capture a screen recording and submit it via Settings - Help - Report a Problem so support can reset the flow.
- Can I bypass the prompt with a VPN?
- No. A VPN only masks location after you comply; Instagram keeps the lock until you finish the official age check. Using false documents violates Meta's Terms and may permanently disable the account.
Account management
- Where do I recover a hacked or locked-out account?
- Use the in-app "Need more help?" link on the login screen or visit instagram.com/hacked. Verify your identity with email/phone codes, then review Active Sessions and revoke unfamiliar logins.
- How do I download or delete my Instagram data?
- Go to Settings - Accounts Center - Your information and permissions - Download your information. You'll receive a link via email within 48 hours. To delete your account, follow the same menu and choose Delete or Deactivate.
- How can I hide my likes or followers?
- Toggle "Hide like counts" per post or globally under Settings - Privacy - Posts. You can also switch to a private account so only approved followers see your follower list.
Creators & monetisation
- What monetisation options are available?
- Eligible creators can earn through Instagram Subscriptions, Gifts on Reels, branded content tools, Creator Marketplace deals, and affiliate links. Check your Professional Dashboard for eligibility and U.S./EU tax requirements.
- How do I access the Creator Marketplace?
- Switch to a professional account, open Professional Dashboard, and apply for Creator Marketplace access. Brands send collaboration briefs directly in-app once you're approved.
- Can I schedule posts and Reels inside Instagram?
- Yes. Use the built-in scheduler (up to 75 days in advance) or Meta Business Suite. Scheduling lives under Advanced settings when you create a Reel or carousel.
Safety & wellbeing
- How do I filter out hate speech or spam DMs?
- Enable Hidden Words under Settings - Privacy - Hidden Words. Instagram auto-filters common slurs, and you can add custom keywords. Suspected spam goes to the "Hidden requests" tab.
- Does Instagram still show chronological feeds?
- Yes. Tap Instagram at the top of the feed and switch to Following or Favourites for chronological ordering. Home remains ranked by the algorithm.
Access & regional issues
- Instagram won't load on my work network.
- Corporate and institutional firewalls sometimes block social media. Use mobile data or a reputable VPN and comply with local policies before doing so.
- My Reels are blocked due to music rights-how do I fix it?
- Use royalty-free tracks from Instagram's music library or replace the audio with an approved track. Rights differ by region; the app notifies you when content is muted.
- Where do I appeal a content takedown?
- Open the notification, tap "Disagree," and follow the prompts. You can track appeals in Settings - Help - Support requests. Escalated reviews may take a few days depending on volume.
