Split Tunneling

Route Stripchat through the VPN while leaving other traffic direct.

Definition

Split tunneling lets you decide which apps or domains use the VPN and which travel over the regular connection. There are two modes: app-based (choose programs that must use the tunnel) and inverse or URL-based (exclude only a shortlist from the tunnel).

Why it matters

  • Performance: Keeping only Stripchat inside the VPN preserves bandwidth for local services (online banking, smart TVs) that may break on foreign IPs.
  • Compliance: Some corporate networks need regular traffic visible for audits while still granting private access to Stripchat through the VPN.
  • Data caps: Reducing tunneled traffic helps stay within VPN provider limits or ISP fair-use thresholds.

Best practices

  1. When prioritizing Stripchat, make sure DNS traffic for the domain also routes through the VPN to avoid leaks.
  2. Revisit your split list after OS updates - applications can change executable paths and slip outside the tunnel.
  3. Avoid split tunneling on untrusted networks; forcing everything through the VPN is safer in cafes and airports.
