AgeID
Third-party age verification system used by Pornhub, XVideos, xHamster, and other adult platforms to comply with regional laws.
Definition
AgeID is an age-assurance service originally developed within the Aylo (MindGeek) network. It verifies that a user is 18+ by checking government IDs, credit-card tokens, or third-party digital IDs, then returns a pass/fail token to participating adult sites.
Why it matters
- Legal compliance: AgeID helps sites satisfy U.S. state laws, the UK Online Safety Act, and EU regulations without storing full ID data themselves.
- Single sign-on: Adults who pass once can reuse the token across supported platforms, reducing friction.
- Privacy safeguards: Raw ID images are encrypted, stored briefly (typically seven days), and deleted after verification.
Notes
- AgeID issues a receipt email after successful verification-keep it for appeals or future reviews.
- Switching VPN endpoints or wiping cookies can trigger a re-check; stay consistent during verification.
- Users can request data deletion directly from AgeID under GDPR/CCPA if they no longer want their token active.
